South Bank Evening

Nothing much to it - a sunny evening, a leisurely walk along the South Bank in London, and experimenting with my G9. Anyone else feels like this warrants a few Gin Tonics?

Zeppelin over London

Our flight was rescheduled four times, I first postponed, then cancelled my holidays for it, and after weeks of delay, it finally happened. Yesterday we took to the air in the Stella Artois 'Star over London', a German-built zeppelin and had a grand view of what London looks like from the air. Representatives of the press were booked on the 'Le Courage' flight, a one-hour round trip from Damyn's Hall airfield in Upminster along the Thames up to Parliament, Westminster and Chelsea before returning home.

Flying in the airship is something of a unique experience: travelling at roughly 30 miles an hour, it is an odd combination of floating in a hot-air balloon and sitting in a helicopter. The difference is that the gondola is quite spacious (and includes a toilet for the faint-hearted), you can move around, the windows can be opened and there is a cockpit, but no vibrations distract you from shooting pictures like in a heli. In short, it was unique, and aerial views from London from about 300 metres above were breathtaking. See the slideshow below:

Drive-by shooting

I've recently done a lot of driving from various assignments up and down the country and have probably clocked up a fair few thousand miles in the last month. On a recent job at Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland (close to Scotland) I got very bored while driving back that gruelling 5-6 hour stretch on the A1M motorway south to London.

So what do you do once you've called all your available friends, eaten all the munchies, smoked all the cigarettes and drank all the water available to you? Answer: you take more pictures.
I probably shouldn't be admitting this on a public blog, but it was just too much fun to keep it to myself: shoot and drive, a new form of traffic offence which our esteemed colleagues in blue will soon catch onto, I'm sure.

We had severe weather, lots of rain, showers and dramatic clouds just before sunset, and I didn't want to miss it. So here goes a motorist's perspective on bad weather on the road...courtesy of my trusty G9.
