Discovering old Black & Whites

The other day I remembered that I had a few rolls of Tri-X at Metro which I'd dropped off months earlier for processing. I can't remember how many months/years those exposed rolls had been sitting in my drawer - all I can remember is that they were not from an assignment, and I must have forgotten them during the course of a busy spell.

So it was time to go and pick them up, dust off the old Nikon LS-30 neg scanner and delve back into the 'old days' of lightboxes, lupes, marking contact sheets and scanning the chosen few. Boy, I'd forgotten how laborious the whole process was, and why it took so little time to fully convert to a digital workflow.

Anyway, seeing these black & white pictures appear on screen, with rich blacks, grain and all brought back many treasured memories. The landscapes I've chosen to show here are from late 2005 and early 2006, and I think - time permitting - that I'll start shooting Tri-X once again for a project soon...
